What does a man do ....why does a man do what he does...what's the purpose behind every action..behind every thought...obviously there has got to be a reason for him to do what he is doing. The reason being what he thinks will be the benefit to him out of the action or thought of his....the result..the returns..the gratification.
(don't think that i am a MCP just because i use the male gender...i tend to think and write in the first person and transfer it on so it invariably turns out to be in the male gender)
where was i ....yeah ..gratification. All the great sages and thinkers of yesteryears have told us all repeatedly over time as to what are the guilts and sins associated with gratification..with wanting gratification. Their constant guideline has been to delay the gratification...postponement of gratification...to put it off..to hold on .
I don't agree with that..neither will many of you. We are the children of the "Me too" generation. We measure the success of our life with materialistic acquisitions and comparing possessions with peers. How can we ever delay ...how can we ever postpone...we must have ...we will have. The only strong point we have to counter the parries of the wise are this " we work hard for what we want to get, so isn't it fair that we get it only? We are not robbing anyone or asking for something we don't deserve right ? " ... and the funny thing is that this argument is a perfectly valid argument...makes perfect sense...more sense than what the wise said ( probably because this way we get something unlike following the sages' advice and ending up with nothing)
so long live gratification....long live materialism....By the way i didn't get any material return out of writing this piece...so does that mean i am a sage...I WONDER

By Gratification I think you mean gratifying our senses. It is a pleasure till things happen our way or till we think that they are offering pleasure. but all the time gratifying our senses may not be possible. Though by smoking or drinking we gratify our senses, when a check point comes where you will have to quit and say no to it. we abide. Why not gratify or treat yourself with a packet of cigarettes or a bottle of beer when you know it is going to kill you. y not indulge?
Every human needs a sense of self discipline which can be obtained only through postponing the gratification of material things. Gratification has a very short life. Its life is just for a micro second like that of a bubble or a lightening. Happiness through gratification lives just for a second, it is either pre gratification or post gratification we ponder up on. If it is just for a moment and nothing else why should we attach that much importance to it.We believe God has created this world for pleasure. Infact we can only believe God exists and we cannot prove the fact that god exists. Our mind is tuned in such a way that we believe in only what we see. This sort of living for a moment of freedom and happiness is animalism. Dont tell me with what is wrong with that. Nothing wrong with being an animal if we are one. when we want to have all the comforts or luxuries of life and have come a long way from living like an animal then I think we have lost our right of behaving like an animal.
I feel it is little pragmatic to think that this world is created for just pleasure.. there is more to it. no person can be singularly happy or suffer all the time. it is a mix of both.
how many scripts have we learnt about these sages to make us an authority to comment?we take so much time reading big volumes of fictions or books. but why not read a scripture with its appropriate commentary.Mahabaratha for example is the most wonderful and mind blowing piece.every character speaks to us.not everyone is noble, despicable acts happen there too.it is just not a story or a myth, I believe strongly that the characters of Mahabaratha are real as such a long plot without a single hitch is humanly impossible feat.
i know it is a long comment manu but felt that when youngsters loves to live for that moment and talking abt sin itself as a sin, i can do nothing but feel sad.We search for our identity or roots while we live here.Y not search for our identity or think about what happens when we leave. This question will make you search for more and you know postponement of gratification or seeking gratification itself is to be avoided as plague :)I'm planning to search more about this too, as I'm not an expert..join me and we will search together.
