India For Sale!!! going once...twice..thrice and sold!!!

This post should have been written a week ago, before I went to the polling booths. But I thought I shall delay the gratification that my readers get until the results come in. ( alright alright …relax relax….i am grateful that you people still read me). But what a big disappointment the results were.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not anti Congress. I am not pro- BJP. (reminds me of one old adage. If Pro is opposite of Con, is progress the opposite of Congress. Remind me to ask Rahul the next time I tea with him). What I wanted basically was this. A DMK loss in the State, a Congress win at the centre.

The reason for this was simple. Family. I hate the familial politics that’s happening in the state. I like the family at the centre for their stance and the way they carry themselves. Same side of two different coins instead of two sides of the same coin. The general state of the state(uh…could have worded that better) is so appalling. Crime rate increase, lack of civil sense, rampant corruption and most importantly juvenile and pathetic governance.

Karunanidhi was a person I had immense respect for. But over the past three years, the way he has been hot-footing around issues, his partition of the country to his heirs apparent has made him look like a fool who is bent upon ridiculing himself. What happened to the guy whose speeches in Tamil used to inspire me (although my Tamil is just passable, he was really awesome)

I like Jayalalitha too. Just for her audacity and confidence (she is also a Leo and carries that haughty attitude beautifully). Not only that, during her reign, the police had some real power and the crime rate in the city just reduces drastically. She was a powerful CM and held control over all her departments unlike the puppet show that is currently in place.

Anyway what is done is done. We are set for another five years at the centre with this government, but I look forward to 2011. Maybe then, there would be a change at the state. A much required change. I hope that the next elections would see more independent candidates who can put a serious dent in the votebank and if lady luck is there, win in some constituencies. (I voted for an independent, Sarath Babu, a man I like immensely and prayed would win)

One last note. There was an interesting point that I came across this election. It is obvious that illegal voting was the major reason for the victories this time. Since both sides are equally well versed in the art of booth rigging, the question arises why one side won and the other lost (not to a great margin and all but anyway a loss is a loss). It’s a simple thing

Congress (Hand) and the DMK (rising sun) leaders across the country show the entire hand as their sign. Whereas the BJP or the ADMK ( two leaves) show just two fingers as victory sign. This is a indication to the millions of followers. Congress and DMK followers each put five illegal votes whereas the BJP and ADMK followers just cast two illegal votes.
The followers are not to be blamed. The leaders should have been more prudent!!!
